Association of Indian Universities (AIU) organises National Student Research Conventions for the aspiring researchers throughout the country with a view to inculcate research culture in higher educational institutions. These conventions aim at identifying young and budding researchers who would be promoted through proper encouragement and incentives.
The National Student Research Convention organised contest in five areas, viz., Basic Science, Agricultural Science, Health Science, Engineering and Technology, Social Sciences & Humanities. The convention was conducted at five zonal levels: North, East, South, West and Central Zones. The best three teams of each area from each zone were shortlisted and permitted to participate in the National Level competition.
The contest conducted both poster and oral presentations in addition to question session. The main criteria for the assessment of the projects were Scientific Thoughts, Concepts and Principles, Creativity, Thoroughness, Skill, Relevance, Cost Effectiveness and Team Work. Additional weightage was given for Scope to Commercialisation of the project work.
Five teams from B.S. Abdur Rahman University selected by the Technical Expert team participated in the South Zone Contest held at Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady, Kerala, on March 21-22, 2016. B.S. Abdur Rahman University won the first and third prize in the South Zone contest. Mr. R. Sriram, Mr. Khalifa Anwar Ali, Mr. Shahul Hameed, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering students won the first prize for the project titled “Rehabilitation of paralysed using Hand Gestures / EEG through Bluetooth” and Mr. C. Manikandan, Ms. G. Dhivya Lakshmi and Ms. A. Amritha, Civil Engineering students won the third prize for the project “Earthcrete and Cob as alternate building materials”.
The winners of the south zone teams of B.S. Abdur Rahman University participated in the National Level Contest held at Sardar Patel University, Anand, Gujarat during March 28 -30, 2016. Among the 70 projects participated across the country, B.S. Abdur Rahman University bagged the first and third place in the Engineering and Technology category. Mr. C. Manikandan, Ms. G. Dhivya Lakshmi and Ms. A. Amritha, Civil Engineering students won first prize for the project “Earthcrete and Cob as alternate building materials” whereas Mr. R. Sriram, Mr. Khalifa Anwar Ali and Mr. Shahul Hameed, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering students won the third prize for the project titled “Rehabilitation of paralysed using Hand Gestures / EEG through Blue tooth”. Prof. Faraq Qamar, General Secretary, Association of Indian Universities gave the prizes and merit certificates to B.S. Abdur Rahman University students in the Valedictory function held on March 30, 2016.
