B.S. Abdur Rahman University (BSARU) entered into an MoU with Deakin University Australia on August 3, 2011, at Taj Coromandal, Chennai, Mr. Chris Evans, Australian minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Jobs and workplace relations was the chief guest of the function.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Jane Den Hollander, Vice Chancellor of Deakin University and Dr. P. Kanniappan, Vice Chancellor BSARU in the presence of Mr. Abdul Qadir A. Rahman Buhari, Pro Chancellor, BSARU.
Evans called for deeper collaborations with Indian and Australian Universities in sharing their expertise, faculty and student exchange programs and for joint research collaborations of global significance which paves way for strengthening bilateral ties as well.
Prof. Jane Den Hollender, Vice Chancellor of Deakin University, in her speech mentioned that Deakin has been named University of the Year twice in Australia, receiving accolades for innovative use of technology in teaching and learning, and education and training partnerships. She called for deeper partnership in research areas including development of lighter automotive materials towards weight reduction in automobiles leading to fuel savings to the extent of 20%.
Dr. P. Kanniappan, Vice Chancellor BSARU explained the three dimensional approach of education at the University in teaching, research, and extension and consultancy and explained that the University has entered into MoUs with 40 Industries and overseas Universities. The University inculcates a multidimensional approach in the dissemination of knowledge and develops international engagement in curriculum design, interdisciplinary research, and faculty and student exchange.
Mr. Abdul Qadir A. Rahman Buhari, Pro chancellor BSARU, pledged larger commitment of the University in joint research of global significance.
Deakin University and BSARU desire to work in a spirit of cooperation to establish an academic link between the two institutions.
Deakin and BSARU will explore the opportunities to develop articulated pathway undergraduate programmes as well as joint postgraduate programmes.
Deakin and BSARU will identify and develop research programmes of mutual interest.
AREAS OF CO-OPERATION
The Deakin and BSARU will discuss opportunities for cooperation in the following areas with a view to developing and carrying out collaborative activities of common interests:
- Academic staff cooperation on collaborative research in areas of common interest;
- Identify and develop collaborative research programmes;
- Establish mechanism for joint supervision of Higher degree by research candidates;
- Development and implementation of student and staff exchange programs;
- Development and implementation of potential Trans-national educational programs;
- Identification of special short-term academic programs and projects of mutual benefit to both institutions; and
- Any other collaborative efforts that both parties may deem fit from time to time.
B.S. Abdur Rahman University, Apollo Tyres sign MoU
A memorandum of Understanding between B.S. Abdur Rahman University and M/s Apollo Tyres was signed on August 14 at the University Premises. Mr. O.S. Kanwar, Chairman and Managing Director, Apollo Tyres and Dr. K. Kanniappan, Vice Chancellor, B.S. Abdur Rahman University graced the occasion.
The MoU provides scope for mutual collaboration in the broad areas of Man Power Training, Collaborative Research, Joint Research Projects, mutual Utilisation of Research and Testing facilities. A specific agreement for conducting part time B. Tech programme for the employees of Apollo Tyres was also entered into. Under this agreement every year diploma holders of Apollo Tyres will be sponsored for exclusive, industry specific Part Time programmes in B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering under B.S. Abdur Rahman University.
Mr. Onkar S. Kanwar, Chairman and Managing Director of Apollo Tyres, in his keynote speech stressed the need for innovation in the modern industrial context. He pointed out that this collaborative venture between industry and university can concentrate on conducting core research in cutting edge areas like Polymer Nano Technology, Developing Greener materials for tyre industry, Cutting edge processes and Manufacturing techniques for tyre indutry. He emphasized that such joint research would facilitate India’s tyre industry to move to the next level in sustainable manufacturing.
Mr. O.S. Kanwar said that Apollo is planning to train its international workforce with the expertise available with B.S. Abdur Rahman University.
The Vice Chancellor Dr. P. Kanniappan in his presidential address emphasised that the joint initiative will provide a forum for the academicians to get involved in the real life problems of the industry and to come out with innovative ideas and solutions. He pointed out that the University had entered MoU s with more than 38 Industries and reputed Universities including Purdue University and Columbia University of USA.
The MoU was signed by Dr. V.M. Periasamy (Registrar, B.S. Abbdur Rahman University) and Mr. K. Prabhakar (Chief, Projects, Apollo Tyres). Dr. V.N.A. Jalal presented a memento to Mr. Onkar S. Kanwar. Students, faculty members and executives of Apollo tyres participated in the event.
