The Mira Road chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind held a panel discussion on drug addiction that boasted of an eminent panel comprising Mr. Zubair Inamdar (Corporator), API SD Nikam (Shanti Nagar Police Station), Dr. Danish Saquib (Clinical Psychiatrist) and Maulana Azhar Kalam Islahi (Majlise Ulema).

Discussing the factors that lead to drug abuse, the panellists zeroed in on parental neglect and unhealthy family and social environment. Maulana Islahi stressed that drugs should be considered as abominable as alcohol.

Mr. Inamdar lamented that we have been able to reach out to only 20% of the addicts. API Nikam explained that this was because it was difficult to trace the source culprits. Dr. Danish informed the audience that the police department has been collaborating with doctors to counsel more than 40 addicts. They have also floated a toll-free number, 7400099950 on which the residents can communicate cases to the administration.

The audience also participated in the discussion, their concerns being duly addressed by the respected panellists.

In their concluding words, the panellists exhorted the audience to assist the administration in curbing this menace. API Nikam assured them that they can openly approach him and he would extend every possible help.

The compère, Mr. Mazhar Hassan, reminded the audience that if we keep ourselves aloof, the problem would consume us as well. Ameere Maqami, Muhammad Ataul Haq appealed to the society to assist them in the Jamaat’s various efforts and concluded the programme with a solemn prayer.
