“Muslims constitute 31 per cent of the population in Assam. It is their imposing demography which has become a problem for the Bodos and now they are being targeted under the pretext of being Bangladeshis. We demand that all displaced people should be allowed to return to their homes and any verification of their identity thereafter should be carried out by competent judicial authorities,” said Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, President All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) at the 3rd meeting of the working committee of Mushawarat on October 6. “If people cannot return to their homes fearing their security, it is the failure of the state as providing security comes under the Directive Principles of the Constitution,” added Professor Arshi Khan, General Secretary, AIMMM.
The little respite in illegal picking up of Muslims, after saffron terror outfits were busted, did not last long and the police has again started its witch-hunting. Terming ‘Indian Mujahidin,’ brought to the surface by IB, as doubtful, Dr. Khan alleged the illegal picking up of Muslims as a well-constructed plan. “The right wing fascist forces like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal have infiltrated the police and IB,” he added.
Lauding the recent report released by JTSA (Jamia Teachers Solidarity Association) on how Special Cell of the Delhi Police frames innocent Muslims, he urged the need to abolish such forces as they themselves are incorrigible breakers of the law. Hailing the current efforts by the Government to raise Muslim representation in police force which has dwindled to 2 per cent, Dr. Khan called for the same in Army, IB and other security agencies so as to boost the lost confidence of the Muslim masses.
Raising concerns about the illegal American sanctions on Iran which has led to 40 per cent depreciation of the Iranian currency, Dr. Khan termed the issue as a violation of the foundations of the NPT which allows signatories to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Comparing the situation with that of Israel which sits on the pile of one thousand nuclear warheads and which does not even allow IAEA to inspect its nuclear facilities, he urged the Muslim countries to come forward to end this charade and end the unjust sanctions. While replying to the question of the implementation of FDI, Dr. Khan neatly negated the very idea and said, “FDI will not bring any reform, in fact, it will deform the economy.”
