At the monthly press meet in the national capital on 3 October, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind strongly condemned the gruesome and barbaric assault on Akhlaq and his family at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh by a violent mob over beef rumours which resulted in the death of Akhlaq and rendered his son critically injured. The Jamaat also expressed deep sorrow over the Mina tragedy.

Engineer Muhammad Salim, Secretary General JIH, while addressing the press meet, expressed concern: how come the place that had never witnessed any communal violence since Independence become so violent and that too only on the basis of rumour. He said that culmination of violence particularly after the regime change that witnessed violence against Muslims, Christians and Dalits is a dangerous precedent not only for the communities concerned but for the entire people and the nation at large. People should protest and thwart the fascist trend which is dangerous for our country and its secular ethos. The Jamaat leader questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is very active on the social media to react on each and every incident is silent on the horrific incident of Dadri. He also said that the silence of PM Modi over the murder of Akhlaq by Hindu fascist elements amounts to encouraging the perpetrators.

Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Ameer JIH, while replying to a question said that the Jamaat from every platform has raised the issue of Communal Violence Bill but it was the lack of will on the part of the then UPA government that it not even placed it before the Parliament. The UPA should have shown some political will to get it passed in order to make it a reality.

On the Hajj stampede, the Jamaat has expressed deep sympathy with the families of the deceased and hoped that the Saudi government will enquire into the incident thoroughly and ensure that such incidents do not take place again in the future. The Jamaat also briefed that it has decided to support secular candidates with good character capable of defeating the NDA in Bihar assembly elections.

The Jamaat chief, while expressing disappointment over Prime Minister’s recent visit to Ireland and US, said that this time the American media ignored his visit and the Corporate sectors were also not happy with the pace of reform and the hollow promises made by the Prime Minister. He termed the GCTOC to be the draconian and poses great threat to the democratic polity of our country and also asked the President of India not to give his assent to the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GCTOC) Bill 2015, forwarded to him by the Home ministry.
