Kerala legislative assembly speaker, P. Sriramakrishnan, said a common platform shall be formed under the auspices of youth organisations to contain extravagance and lavishness in marriage and house building. He was talking after handing over 21 flats built under Sunrise Kochi rehabilitation project.
“Those who spend for extravagance in marriage functions and house construction should come forward to tax themselves. It is often said that Kerala is model for the country and the whole world. This status did not occur all at once. A base evolved through social reformation helped to acquire the status. The trend in which youth organisations and political movements turn to charity is commendable. This is a fight too. That is why Solidarity’s project gets relevance. I am glad to hand over the flats which reflect lights of immense love,” Sriramakrishnan said.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Kerala Amir MI Abdul Aziz said, the Sunrise project bears evidence to the fact that benevolence and love still prevails amongst us. He announced the completion of the first phase of the project.
Sunrise could evolve as a project with active participation of the kind and human loving people. These efforts are part of reconstructing the nation.
Solidarity State President, T. Shakir said Mattanchery displaces the claims of Kerala which boasts of efforts to solve homelessness. A glance at West Kochi will make one rub off all the claims regarding development model and educational progress of the state. Solidarity Youth Movement desired to share the amenities that we have with the people of Mattanchery, T. Shakir said.
Novelist T.D. Ramakrishnan said homelessness can be solved if projects like Sunrise are popularised. “Political activity of the youth has undergone a creative shift in the 21st century. Projects like Sunrise could transform as light of hope in an era of violence,” he said.
Dr. Sebastian Paul said that Sunrise project is a testimony to the fact that when a youth organisation with high morale and credibility like Solidarity come forward to help the homeless, people will help with land and finance.
District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safiruallah handed over the key of single house built under Sunrise project.
Sunrise Project Director M.M. Mohammed Umer introduced different projects being executed under the project. Assistant Police Commissioner S. Vijayan flagged off a volunteers group, Team 99, formed for charity activities at West Kochi. Team Convenor Ashkar Mattanchery received the flag.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind former Vice President Prof. K. Siddiq Hassan, K.J. Maxi MLA, Welfare Party state president Hameed Vaniyambalam, Adv. T.R. Rajan, SIO state general secretary Thoufeeq Mampad, GIO general secretary Fasna Miyan, Jamaat-e-Islami Ernakulam district president M.K. Abubaker Faruqi, DIT Chairman Faisal Kochi and others gave felicitations.
