The Malayali students, who do Hijra (Migration) for higher education and research activities to the premier institutes in the country and abroad provides hope for the future of the intellectual sphere of Kerala and the new generation students, said Dr. Kootil Muhammad Ali, Chairman Education Department, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Kerala. He was delivering the keynote address in the Students Convention organised by the Society for Students Welfare. The migration of talented students is the creative struggle against the existing inequalities in the higher educational sector in Kerala, especially in the Malabar region.
Students should not be mere consumers of knowledge produced by the West but producers, engaged in meaningful findings of new knowledge, he added.
Sandeep Kumar, Minister of Women and Child Social Welfare, SC, ST of Government of NCT of Delhi, inaugurated the convention.
The Society for Students Welfare, which is working to overcome a myriad of challenges faced by the Malayali students in Delhi, is a model for all Educational assistance volunteer organisations here, the Minister said.
Delhi University Assistant Professor Dr. Reem Shamsuddin, Jamia Millia Islamia; Assistant Professor Dr. Habeeb Rahman; and Additional Economic Advisor to Government of India, Abdul  Kareem IES interacted with the students on different topics. Society for Students Welfare President PK Noufal chaired the convention held in the Delhi School of Social Work Auditorium.
The Students who exhibited academic and non-academic excellence in the last academic year were honoured with awards.
While the programme commenced with the recitation of the Qur’ānic ayaat recited by Saalim, the students added variety to the programme with cultural performances.
Vice President Mishab Irikkur welcomed the participants and the convention concluded with vote of thanks by Shoukath Ali, Convener of the Convention.
