When the Qur’ān was being revealed, only a few fortunate persons came to believe the Divine Message. While most of the people started doubting the truth of revelation, the Qur’ān as the revealed book and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as God’s Messenger, i.e. the entire divinity. What stopped them from realising the truth? It was their carefree lifestyle which the Qur’ān was pointing out. In fact, the Book denounced their erroneous beliefs and ignorant customs and practices, and exposed the fundamental contradictions in their beliefs. Right from the ancient divine religion of Prophets Abraham and Ismael, the Arabs retained the belief that God was the Creator and Sustainer, who gives life and causes death, and who has absolute power over all things in the universe. In sharp contradiction to their beliefs, they now claimed that God had children and that the angels were His daughters, representing them as idols and appealing to them to intercede with God on their behalf. This confusion and contradiction in beliefs had far-reaching effects on their life.

This brief backdrop of why people failed to see through the path of ultimate success the Divine Message promises, reveals that it is doubt and confusion that puts obstacles in one’s march from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth, from the depth of unbelief to the height of belief. Therefore, the safest way to success is to believe the truth as and when it comes. If some initial hesitation comes in the way, it can be overcome by praying to the Lord Creator to open the heart to the truth.

The Qur’ān is in fact the Book of Wisdom. It is up to we the human beings to study it and find out its wisdom. The Qur’ān – 10:1-2 says: “Alif. Lām. Rā. These are verses of the divine book, full of wisdom. Does it seem strange to people that We have inspired a man from their own midst: ‘Warn all mankind, and give those who believe the glad tidings that they are on a sound footing with their Lord?’”

The Chapter 10 of the Book portrays a variety of universal scenes that help us realise the truth of Godhead, His elaborate planning of creation of the universe and conducting of its affairs. The verses 5 and 6 of this chapter say: “He it is who made the sun a source of radiant light and the moon a light (reflected), and determined her phases so that you may know how to compute the years and measure (time). God has not created this otherwise than in accordance with the truth. He makes plain His revelations to people of knowledge. Indeed, in the alternating of night and day, and in all that God has created in the heavens and the earth, there are signs for people who are God-fearing.”

The fact is that when we start thinking over the objects of Nature and the very making our own body as to how they function, it leads us to the realisation of the truth. The Qur’ān – 10:109 says in very candid terms: “Follow whatever is revealed to you, and be patient in adversity, until God shall give His judgement. He is the best of all judges.” These are the words of the Lord, the Creator and Sustainer. Then, will we come to accept His Message?
