Human Welfare Foundation (HWF), in order to motivate students from weaker and marginalised sections, distributed scholarships in New Delhi under its ambitious plan “Vision 2016”. Under the plan, HWF distributes 500 scholarships every year among the students pursuing courses in humanities and social sciences.
On 31 January, 50 meritorious undergraduates and postgraduates from various institutions, colleges and universities in Delhi and Haryana, were awarded scholarships worth Rs. 5 lakh at a programme held at The Scholar School Auditorium in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi. The selection of awardees was finalised on the basis of their academic and overall performance through an interview. The aim and the purpose of this scholarship is not only to boost the morale of the students but also to make them feel and realise that after getting education they should contribute towards the community, the society and their country. If the students get something from the society, they must in return give something to the society. The students should realise the goal of their life, purpose of education and their responsibilities towards society.
Before awarding the scholarships, students were made to sign a declaration that they would neither take any dowry nor would they give dowry. They should become guardian and mentor of at least one orphan in association with HWF. And finally the students should voluntarily provide their expertise and services for the organisation in their own capacity after completing their education in order to carry forward the welfare schemes of the HWF in a more effective manner.
In the programme, prominent educationists, social work educators and philanthropists of the area guided the participants. They included Hussain Yasin Siddiqui, Researcher and Educator; Dr. Rihan Khan Suri, Career and Placement officer JMI; Dr. Habeeburrahman, Social Work Department, JMI; Mr. Shamim Siddiqui, President, Jamia Nagar Coordination Committee; Kuwar Anwar, President RWA; and Haji Irfan, Member Zila Panchayat Board, were present to felicitate the awardees.
