We feel it is wrong and it is violation of the basic religious and fundamental rights of citizens. Whether it is an institution or the government, it has no right to intervene or dictate about dress code what to wear and what not to. It is a matter of personal choice and it should remain so and nobody has any right to intervene in it. No matter whether it is banned by a Muslim group, government or any institution, everybody is governed by Constitutional values and our Constitution clearly says that every citizen has fundamental and religious rights; so, nobody has any right to intervene in those rights,” said  Jamaat-e-Islami Hind National President, Syed Sadatullah Husaini, in reply to a question on ban on burqa in Sri Lanka and by an institution in Kerala, during the monthly briefing at JIH headquarters on  May 4.

In reply to another question on the implementation of model code of conduct, the JIH president, while expressing concern, said, the basic ethics of elections and democratic rights of the people are being violated. The Election Commission should be neutral and conduct election in a transparent and responsible manner and act as a constitutional body. The Election Commission should also ensure that political parties and leaders do not use election to provoke religious sentiments. In a civilized society, elections are fought on governance. On Delhi election, the JIH leader said, we will support candidates based on merit and not on party. On the question on full statehood for Delhi, he said Jamaat supports full statehood for Delhi.

Earlier, while briefing media persons during the press meet, the Vice President of JIH, Mohammad Salim Engineer demanded from the government of Sri Lanka to thoroughly investigate these blasts and try to bring the criminals to justice. The government should also take required measures to ensure safety, security and fearless life for the Muslim community.
