Indian National League during its two-day national executive committee meeting elected all India office bearers at Gandhi Peace Foundation in the national capital on 16 December. The party in a press conference after the national executive committee meet declared to fight assembly elections in Delhi election and demanded proportional representation at all levels.
Addressing the press meet, Prof. Mohammad Sulaiman, national president said that under the present situation where hatred is being enthused by various divisive forces to vitiate and communalise the atmosphere. It is the need of the hour to make a larger coalition of secular forces in order to keep the spirit of the secularism and democracy intact. Sulaiman also emphasised that his party will take up the issues of minorities and weaker sections like Dalits and OBCs and called upon them to raise the issue of proportional representation in every department and government institutional; then only issues will get resolved and atrocities committed against these communities will get reduced to a greater extent.
Party president, while introducing new office bearers, said that in Delhi at least 10 assembly constituencies have been identified by the party and 10 more are under consideration. Towards the end the party will try to contest maximum seats after consulting other Muslim groups and likeminded parties and stakeholders.
Sulaiman, while replying to a question, told Radiance that the issues that the party has decided to take up before assembly elections in Delhi is selective development of Delhi because one area is less developed than other, scarcity of water, electricity, sanitation and civic and hygienic sense, regularisation of colonies and issue of daily wage workers.
He also said that all efforts would be made to ensure that divisive forces are unable to polarise the sentiments of the people in Delhi.
The party also declared to contest elections in other states as well and fight for the rights of Dalits and weaker sections and to mobilise the likeminded people to safeguard constitutional rights of minorities and the weaker sections. Mr. PC Kuriel has been appointed as working president- cum Vice president. Other Vice president includes Abdul Rehman Milli, Iqbaluz Zafar (Advocate) and HL Rajwara. In the meet, four general secretaries, and seven secretaries were also elected.
