In order to condemn inhuman brutality in Syria and express solidarity with the people of Aleppo, concerned people of New Delhi staged a protest in front of Syrian embassy at Vasant Vihar in the capital on 16 December.

Wasiq Nadeem Khan, a social activist, said, “Our presence here is the reflection that we are alive against injustice, brutality and any kind of oppression. We will continue to raise our voice against injustice against any community in any part of the world. It is a fight for justice and against injustice.” Mr. Khan also urged the President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee to send ambassadors of Myanmar and Syria back from India.”

Briefing on the entire situation in Syria, Gauhar Iqbal said there was a very peaceful movement going on in Syria against the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad but the way people were crushed by the repressive regime can be called the most brutal and inhuman oppression against the people in the history of the world where more than half of the population was forced to flee. According to an independent UN estimate, more than five lakh people have been killed and most of them are women and children.

Protestors marched to the Syrian embassy and shouted slogans demanding ouster of the Syrian ambassador from India. They held a public meet very close to the police barricade just in front of the Syrian embassy.

Mr. Siraj Talib, President of Welfare Party of India, Delhi, said despite the killings and largescale destruction, the world community has remained a mute spectator. This is a matter of grave concern. “We also demand from the Government of India to intervene in Syria against the bloodshed and atrocities,” he said.

Khaliquzzaman Khan, a social activist, wondered why all the champions of human rights are silent on the mayhem and barbaric assault on the people in Syria and why the so-called champions of democracy are with the dictators committing brutality against the people who believe in democracy.

Jamia Mass Communication student, Maryam Siddiqui said we all should learn the revolutionary method of our Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be to him) who was sent for all mankind and fought against injustice towards one and all.
