The manner in which the Uttar Pradesh government dealt with the protestors is a classic textbook case of state sponsored terrorism. We reiterate our demand to dismiss Uttar Pradesh government and also demand high level independent judicial enquiry into the violent attacks and police brutality on the people protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Uttar Pradesh,” said JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini. He was addressing press persons at the Jamaat headquarters on January 4.

“We will not allow our democratic and secular country to turn into a police state. Why was there no violence during anti-CAA protests in non-BJP states? It means there is something fishy. We feel police indulged in large-scale violence in Uttar Pradesh. We can judge who was guilty only after a high level judicial probe and not simply by police version,” said JIH President.

The Jamaat chief, while replying to a question, said the manner in which America has intervened and killed a commander in an independent and sovereign country like Iran is a broad daylight murder and war crime which should be condemned by all.

Earlier, addressing media persons, the Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Muhammad Salim Engineer expressed concern over the insensitivity of the government towards nationwide protests against the CAA-NRC-NPR. While condemning the Nankana Sahib Gurudwara incident, he said, “It is the duty of the Pakistan government to ensure safety and security of the religious site and pilgrimage. Timely response and action is the need of the hour to ensure that the situation remains under control and does not further escalate.”

JIH National Secretary for Community Affairs, Malik Moatasim Khan, while briefing about his visit to the state of Uttar Pradesh, said the police were given free hand to crush the protest. More than 25 have died, hundreds rendered injured and thousands of unnamed people are booked under various sections; the police have an open licence to arrest people at random basis. Police behaved with the Muslims as if they were enemy and not like citizens. The police must understand the mob psychology and deal with it accordingly rather than treating citizens in a revengeful manner. Police should try to disperse the protestors and not to crush the protest.
