The Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari has conveyed great anguish and sadness on the havoc wreaked by the recent torrential rains in Tamil Nadu and especially the flood-like situation that has developed in its capital Chennai.

He expressed his solidarity with the people of Chennai in this critical situation and hoped that the State and Central government would expedite the process of rescue and rehabilitation of those affected by the flooding.

Maulana Omari said that: “The various scenes of Chennai submerged by water and the loss of hundreds of lives are a cause of great anguish and grief for the country. I pray to All Mighty Allah to alleviate the suffering of the people of Chennai and give them respite and relief from the calamity that has befallen them. I urge the State and Central government to carry out an investigation after normalcy is restored as to why the city of Chennai got submerged to such an extent because of the heavy rainfall. Can we improve town planning to avoid reoccurrence of such a situation?”
The Jamaat leader hoped that the people of India would contribute generously towards the relief efforts and give charity to help the flood affected. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (Tamil Nadu Zone) will also participate in the relief and rehabilitation activities and provide maximum possible help with the resources under its command.
