In a letter to Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, Secretary (National and Community Affairs) of Jamaat-e Islami Hind, Mohammad Ahmad, expressed shock over the inability or unwillingness of the police to control the mob which burnt 49 Muslim houses along with their livestock. Following is the content of the letter:

“We were shocked to know about the burning of the village-Asthan under Nawabganj Police Station in district-Pratapgarh. Media has reported that the houses and properties of all Muslim population of the said village were burnt by the mob and surprisingly the police could do nothing.

“We are sure, you will agree with our view that this type of tendency of people is totally against the democratic values and very dangerous for law and order situation of the State.

“If anyone commits the crime, he should be punished by the judiciary as per law but no one should be allowed to take the law into his own hands.

“We hope that all the possible efforts will be done to bring the law and order situation under control and all the culprits responsible for burning the village should be arrested and punished and justice should be done to the affected villagers.
