T. Arifali, Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Kerala has demanded the Union government to ensure sufficient security measures to the Assam riot victims to get back to their homes. In a press statement released after visiting the riot-affected places in the north-east state, he also demanded the government to seize the arms illegally possessed by Bodo terrorists, to stop the discrimination with the rule of ‘Bodoland Territory Council’ sanctioned by the Union Government in 2003, and to put an end to the insecurity in the riot effected places as well as to endeavour to develop communal harmony. Since the relief camps have been set in educational institutions, the entire educational system has collapsed. The government should reinstate the system immediately by implementing quick rehabilitation projects.
Jamaat leaders, who visited the relief camps, found the condition extremely pathetic. Though the Government distributes food, the flood due to the heavy rain coupled with the incapability, as of now, of the Government to extend medical service intensifies the frailty of the site. The service offered by IRW workers and MES doctors, both from Kerala, is worthwhile. However, yet more service is measured essential in medical field.
Almost 20 families have been put together in a single classroom. Accommodating thousands of families even without basic amenities including toilets makes the living in relief camps utterly terrible.
JIH Kerala commenced three offices situated respectively at Vilasippara, Nathidura and Bijni and adopted 70 out of the total 298 relief camps as yet under the leadership of Muhammad Shafi Madni, Secretary, Social Services, Jamaat-e-Islami, Hind. It focuses distribution of necessary equipment, including sheets, for building up provisional tents, arranging means of reclaiming the documents lost in the riot, helping the students by arranging procedures to resume their education, legal activism to guarantee sufficient amends, building up houses for those who return to their villages, etc.
JIH Kerala Ameer, T.Arifali and crew including Sheikh Muhammad Karakkunnu, Asst. Ameer; P. Mujeeb Rahman, General Secretary; N.M. Abdurahaman, Secretary; Mammunni Moulavi, State Council Member; and P.C. Basheer, Secretary for Social Service reached Assam on September 20. They also met the leaders of AUDF and Jamiat-e-Ulama Hind.
