Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (Maharashtra) is organising 10 days state wide campaign “Maharashtra Ka Vikas Nyay aur Sadbhavna Ke Saath”, from 12 to 21 September before the ensuing Assembly polls that is scheduled to take place in October 2014.

The Jamaat aims to reach out to at least 6 crore voters through various means, including door to door campaigning, individual, group and corner meetings, symposia, rallies and tours of nearly 33 districts by the state leadership of Jamaat with like-minded peersons and organisations.

The organisation, in a statement on 11 September, says it feels political parties are claiming to work for Development and Ache Din but its benefits are not reaching the poor, in fact the gap between the poor and the rich is widening.

Corruption and Inflation are other threats to our economy and to our society as a whole. Maharashtra has seen Irrigation scam, Fodder Scam in Ahmednagar. Despite financial packages by the Central and State governments, farmers especially in Vidarbha are still committing suicides.

Maharashtra has witnessed maximum communal violence in the last decades. This phenomenon has “divided our society, caused loss of life and hurt the economy”. Despite being most Industrialised State, Maharashtra tops the chart of Unemployment rate of 4.5% for the People of Maharashtra.

Considering the situation, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra has brought out a Peoples’ Manifesto. It includes a list of objectives for the government that comes to power in Maharashtra.

The manifesto includes the issues of Farmers Suicide, Inflation and Corruption, Communal Harmony, Education and Social Justice.

It calls for requisite powers to the Lokayukts, Implementation of Dr. Narendra Jadhav Report on Farmers Suicide, Free Education from KG to PG, Appointment of Protection Officers at Taluka Level as provided by the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

The manifesto demands MNREGA for 365 days, help unorganised sector and special packages for Powerloom Industry Development of Bhiwandi, and Malegaon as the textile hubs.

It also calls for Implementation of the recommendations of Mehmood ur Rehman Study Group. Some of the recommendations are:

  • minimum 8 % reservation in government jobs, colleges & housing
  • establish Equal Opportunity Commission, Communal violence Bill.
  • expansion of OBC list to include extremely deprived Muslims
  • compulsory inclusion of Muslims in recruitment committees

The Aim is to strengthen the democracy, maintain communal harmony, social justice for women and minorities and the development that reaches to the poor is also part of the manifesto.
