The Mumbai unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) launched an ambitious online sponsorship project for school students on 3 April. Islam has always accorded education its rightful place, with Iqra (read) being the very first word to have been revealed to Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, who himself is regarded as teacher by all mankind. However, lack of financial resources often deprives children of the gift of education. No more! We all know that both philanthropists and the needy abound in our country, especially the Muslim community. This website promises to serve as a link between the two.
All units of JIH Mumbai would upload data of poor students irrespective of their religious or caste background along with their respective bank account details on the website after proper survey and verification. Thus, all cases uploaded on this portal would be genuine so that the donors are rest assured that their money would be put to good use.
Prospective donors can select the student they would like to sponsor from the list and data posted here. They can choose to remain anonymous. Donations would be transferred online to the recipient’s account. They would also be able to monitor the progress of those students.
Multiple donors can contribute towards the expenses of a single student and a single donor may choose to sponsor as many students as he wishes to.
Donors would also get advantage of Income Tax Exemption under Section 80G.
The role of JIH would be to serve as a medium, to ensure transparency and credibility.  The photograph of the students would not be displayed to all visitors; only their benefactors would be able to view their snaps. This has been done to avoid violating the dignity of the students.
Along with education, the website also offers opportunities for donation towards various social causes like ‘Let’s fight Drugs’, ‘Let’s Fight Hunger’ and ‘Let’s Plant Trees’. Muhammad Abdul Qadeer was quoted as saying, “We ardently hope that God accepts this noble endeavour and the website is successful in helping us realise our goal of 100% literacy.”
