The Delhi local units of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind were successful in bringing a bit of happiness onto the face of the jhuggi dwellers living Madanpur Khadar, Delhi, whose shelters were gutted by fire on 7 May. The Jamaat on 12 May distributed household items among 128 families who had lost their households.

As per media report available, 150 jhuggis were gutted by fire, which fortunately did not claim any human life but did destroy properties and some horses. Mozair Ali, a juggi dweller, hawker and victim of fire, said to Radiance that he had lost his property worth Rs. 60,000. “I have nothing left. There are seven members in my family. I don’t know how I will feed them. These household items distributed by Jamaat may help for some time. But it is not enough.

After the incident, Amanatullah Khan, M.L.A. also helped the victims by providing temporary shelters and disturbing food items for some time.

Mansoor Gazi, Area Organiser of JIH Delhi, who was also part of the relief work, said while talking to Radiance, “Whatever we have done is an emergency work. They are in need of basic facilities like drinking water, food items, cleanliness, etc. The government should pay heed to them and provide at least basic requirements.” He also said, “We will conduct second survey to review what we can do more. We will do what we can.”
