The numbers of such person who are held for the purpose of investigation may be around seven lacks. These were the views expressed by various speakers at the meeting on ”protection of civil rights” organised by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), a social organization. The meeting was held at the State Headquarters of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at Maulviganj, Lucknow. Participants in the meeting comprised representatives from 14 Districts of Uttar Pradesh (west).
Ram Kishor, president of All India Forward Block, said that a number of innocent persons are held in the name of terrorism and it is the duty of Civil Rights organisations to stand up to correct the situation. Mohammad Ahmad, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Uttar Pradesh, said that the government is duty bound to ease availability of justice to the common man. He regretted that in spite of presence of a large infrastructure in the name of justice, obtaining justice is very difficult in India. Thousands of innocent people are victim of the slow pace and defects in the system.
