Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, during a press conference in the national capital on 3 May, asked the people to keep on fighting for justice, democratic, constitutional and human rights. JIH has also expressed concern over brutality in Egypt and condemned blast at Chennai and massacre of Muslims in Assam.

Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, Secretary JIH, while talking to media persons, said the outcome of election and the formation of government will have far reaching impacts on the future of the country. Indian Muslims along with other democratic forces put their best to defeat communal forces. No matter who will be in power but the struggle for justice, democracy and protection of rights of minorities and weaker sections must continue with the help and coordination of other justice seeking groups.

Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Ameer JIH, in reply to a question said that during the election campaign speeches of different political leaders were different from what they had mentioned in their manifesto because it was not clear what they wanted to do and how they would solve the problems of the people and what policies they have in their store. Towards the end, the campaign was focused on individuals rather than issues that matter the most for the people of India. The language, the method and the personality based campaign further reminds us of value-based party and value-based politics.

Other issues that were touched upon were interference in Muslim Personal Law and continued persecution of Islamists in Egypt.

JIH has criticised the recent move of the Delhi government about the compulsory marriage registration and the recent Supreme Court order which says that divorced Muslim women are entitled to get maintenance from the her ex-husband even after Iddat period which according to JIH is interference in Muslim Personal Law. JIH has clarified that it is not against the registration of marriage but believe that the government should accept the Nikah records maintained by Qazis and management of mosques. Marriage registration as proposed by the government will create unnecessary administrative and legal complications. Muslim Personal Law Board has already made its stand clear on this issue.

On the persecution of Islamists in Egypt, JIH has expressed serious concern about the atrocities, brutality and award of death sentence on mere small charges. The entire world is concerned over the prevailing situation in Egypt. JIH has urged the civilized nation to take effective steps to contain atrocities and state terrorism in Egypt. JIH has also asked the Arab rulers to stop the Egyptian regime for committing brutalities and anti-Islamic activities rather than helping them.
