After holding “preamble reading” sessions in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court over the last week as ‘protest’, lawyers opposing the CAA and the police atrocities against the protestors took to the streets of Delhi on January 14. Starting from the Lawyers Chambers outside the Supreme Court, the lawyers marched down Bhagwan Das Road and Barakhamba Road and ended at Jantar Mantar.

The protest began with a reading of the Preamble of the Constitution of India by Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, who also said that lawyers were “soldiers of the Constitution and responsible for upholding the law”.

The protestors, shouting slogans “Modi- Shah Sharam Karo”, carried posters and banners against the CAA, NRC and NPR, and the “violation of people’s right to protest and dissent”.

They also demanded a judicial enquiry into the incidents of violence in UP and criticised the use of “communal comments” made by police officials regarding the impact of the CAA and NRC.
