God created man and put him on earth just to test him how much obedient and faithful he is to Him. But it is the munificence of God that He does not left man to wander about without any guidance. He made a perfect arrangement for his guidance to show him the prescribed way of life. For this He sent Messengers and revealed Books. The very first man was the first Messenger. So, we can say that not a single person was devoid of guidance. However, it depends on man how much importance he gives to the Divine Guidance to tread onto the path of ultimate success.

In this process God draws our attention towards the umpteen Signs spread all over the universe as well as in our own physique. There is perfect harmony in the various objects in the universe. We can see how the different planets and stars, many much greater than our earth, move and move and normally do not collide. Similarly, if we ponder over the making of our physique, we would come to know that God made organs of our body in perfect unison. We hardly reflect on how different organs and tissues function – e.g., when we take a breath or utter a word. In Surah Al-Mu’minūn, the Qur’ān says: “It is He who has endowed you with hearing, and sight, and minds” and asks, “How seldom are you grateful.” (23-78)

Here God talks of just three of His bounties He has blessed us with – the powers of hearing, seeing and reflecting. For a better understanding of such bounties, let us see a person who does not have any of these powers while we have. It is at this point that we would be able to stand grateful to God for whatsoever He has blessed with.

Then in the same breath, the Qur’ān draws our attention towards one Sign after another. God says: “And He it is who caused you to multiply on earth; and to Him you shall be gathered.” And He further says: “And He it is who grants life and causes death; and to Him is due the alternation of night and day. Will you not, then, use your reason?” (23:79-80)

In fact it is He who has set this alternation in operation, just like He grants life and takes it away. Both sets of parallel situations are natural laws: one operates within man while the other operates in the world at large. And then God asks: Will you not draw the right conclusion and admit that our life as well as the universe is just part of God’s perfect design and elaborate planning. As it is He alone who is in full control of life and the universe, our success lies in aligning with this Divine planning.
