The Qur’ān is the Divine Book of Guidance. It invites people to the Truth in ways only the Lord of the universe could have adopted. It presents solid and undeniable arguments before people, relates stories of denial and disobedience followed by subsequent destruction of earlier nations, and draws their attention to the Signs present in human physique as well as spread over in the objects of nature.

In SūrahYāsīn, the Qur’ān tells people to follow the Message presented by the Messenger of God. But they persisted in their denial of the Truth and their attitude of antagonism which they had adopted towards the Messenger ﷺ. Then the Qur’ān invites them to the lifeless earth that can serve as a Sign of God. When God causes rains from the sky, the lifeless earth turns lively, and becomes able to produce grain for people to eat. The Qur’ān (36:33) says: “There is a sign for them in the lifeless earth: We give it life and produce out of it grain for them to eat.”

Not only grain but fruit and springs are also produced for them to benefit from. The Qur’ān (36:34-35) says: “We place in it gardens of date palms and grapes, and cause springs to gush out of it, so that they may eat of its fruit. It was not their own hands that made all this. Will they, then, not give thanks?”

The Qur’ān argues that grains, gardens of date palms and grapes and gushing out of springs could be possible only by the Mercy of the Lord: “It was not their own hands that made all this.” No one can produce even a blade of grass on one’s own. It is the Lord Almighty Who makes all this possible for people on earth. And the Lord creates all things with perfection. He has created everything in pairs, male and female, like men and women and countless other speciesknown only to God; this is to ensure that the creation may continue its succession on earth. And His creation is so universal that man has no knowledge of everything He has created. The Qur’ān (36:36) says: “Limitless in His glory is He who created all things in pairs: whatever the earth produces, their own human kind and other creatures of which they have no knowledge.”

Each of His creation spread in the universe is a Sign of God in the sense that it speaks about God and gives evidence of His presence. People only need to look at the land in front of them and see how it is lying dead and lifeless. Then they see it producing grain and adorned with gardens replete with dates and grapes. They also see springs of water gushing through it; and in no time, the lifeless land is full of life. All this is a miracle which no man can produce. All this demands that we thank God, obey Him in all matters of life and worship Him alone.
