After assuming the charge as Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retired) Zameeruddin Shah on May 18 said his vision for AMU will be to prepare students to qualify the competitive exams for employment in central services, armed forces and leading industries besides qualifying for admission in IITs, IIMs and medical courses. “We will also aim at producing top professionals in Medicine, Engineering, Law, Management, Sciences and Humanities”, vowed Gen. Shah.

He was interacting with Deans of Faculties, Principals of Colleges and elected representatives to the Executive Council. He said the competent and highly dedicated staff will be encouraged to upgrade their qualifications and skills so that they can be the vanguard for quality research.

General Shah stressed that his primary focus will be the students and University administration will provide high quality education, nutritious meals and comfortable accommodation for them. His thrust will also be on sports, personality development and confidence building activities.

He said that the starting point for any endeavour is discipline and there will be no compromise on punctuality. There must be respect for elders and affection for juniors. Ragging will not be tolerated. Cohesion and team spirit will be inculcated and factionalism and groupism will be eliminated.

Gen. Shah said that AMU alumni will be encouraged to extend help as it was a “pay-back time’ for them. He said Sir Syed’s vision of imparting modern education, particularly for the ‘Millat’, will be implemented vigorously and in totality. Propelling AMU to the position of one of the topmost universities in the country is a challenge for him and he will lead this premier University by setting a personal example. Total integrity will be his priority and it is ‘not negotiable’.

General Zameeruddin Shah said that he has strong bonds with AMU. His father and father-in-law were the products of this University.
