Muslims organisations organised a grand rally in Mumbai on October 25, calling upon the Congress-NCP Maharashtra government to implement Srikrishna Commission Report in its entirety and give justice to the victims of 1992-93 Mumbai riots.
Muslims organisations including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra, Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), South Maharashtra Zone, Movement for Peace and Justice (MPJ), Jamiatul Ulema, Qawmi Majlis-e-Shura, etc. warned the government to implement the report before December 5 otherwise they would launch ‘Jail Bharo’ movement by December 6.
The organisations jointly demanded to register the cases under MACOCA against the culprits of 1992-93 Mumbai riots, to treat it like 1984 anti-Sikh riots, arrest ex-Police Commissioner R D Tyagi, register a case against Madhokar Sarpotdar in the same way as Sanjay Dutt was arrested, reopen the case against ex-Minister Gajanan Kartekar, and CBI investigation into Ajmer Dargah blasts.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra President Nazar Madu cited the quote of Justice Srikrishna, who once said, ‘I compiled the report but to implement the report Baghwan Krishna would have to come’. Mr Madu demanded from the government to implement the complete report.
Addressing the rally, Riyazur Rahman Khan, President Students Islamic Organisation of India, Mumbai Division strongly condemned the state government’s callous behaviour towards the culprits of 1992-93 Mumbai riots.
Pointed out Hyderabad government’s biased role in the action into Makkah Masjid blasts, he said that in India Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs are living but why only Muslims beg for justice.
He urged the Muslim students to fare well in the fields like civil services and fair politics. He concluded the speech on the slogan ‘Jo Niyay ki baat karega wahi desh pe raj karega (Those who do justice, would govern the nation),’ thereby hinting at the idea that political parties that will take no interest in doing justice to Muslims would be voted out.
