Mass Marriage Solemnised in Assam

Mass marriages of 95 brides and bridegrooms hailing from different rural places in Assam were solemnised under the aegis of Human Welfare Foundation and Assam Falah Society at Manisha Marriage Hall, Guwahati on May 30. Nikah was performed by Maulana Baharuddin Ahmed Qasmi, President All Assam Qazi Association.

Dignitaries like Dr. Nazrul Islam, Minister for Minority Affairs and Civil Supply; Mr. Akon Bora, MLA and former president AGP; Mr. Abdul Khalek, MLA, Assam; Prof. K.A. Siddique Hassan, General Secretary, Human Welfare Foundation, New Delhi; Mr. P.I. Haneefa and M.K. Farook from Trivandram; K.M. Najeeb from Malapurram; Abdul Latheef P.K. from Kalour, Kerala; Prof. Atowar Rahman, Gauhati University; and Prof. Dewan Abdul Qadir addressed the gathering and offered blessings to the new-wedded couples.

Observing the ideal method, Dr. Nazrul Islam said that such programmes will be able to eradicate the ugly practice of dowry and will decrease useless expenditures incurred on marriage parties in modern society.
