Dr. Javed Jamil, a renowned author and social activist, during the weekly meet at the headquarters of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on 8 August, said that there is barrier in between knowledge and ignorance and unless and until that barrier is removed the world community cannot come out of the darkness that has engulfed our mind and thought process.
We are passing through a period where there is economic fundamentalism and the countries with super economic powers are trying to impose their way of thinking or their ways of doing things through economy and wants to keep the holds on the economy in their hands in order to manipulate and exploit other countries at their will.
In the present context, there is degradation in justice and law apparatus. There is no doubt there are honest people in our police department, jails and judiciary but they are in less numbers and that is why seeking justice today seems to be a distant dream especially for Muslims because the parroted projection of Muslims in a wrong manner is creating a negative image of the community and thus decision is influenced by it which is dangerous. Muslims and the marginalised remain vulnerable at each juncture and at every level of justice seeking mechanism because these departments have developed a bias attitude towards minorities and the weaker sections of the society and the marginalised over the years.
In our judiciary, to deliver verdict the judges have got no choice other than the lawyer’s statements on either side and in most of the cases both the lawyers tell lies; in such circumstances how can justice be expected. The judges must have some mechanism to verify what is true and what is false and then give verdict. As the representation of Muslims is less in politics, media, police and judiciary, the community will always remain vulnerable and will be subjected to discrimination. How can it be possible that the community that suffers most during the riots is the guiltiest of committing violence? Is it by any logic true? Does it sound convincing?
According to Islam, we are here to reform society and to tell people what is harmful. So, therefore, it becomes our responsibility to contain the menace of alcohol and other practices causing harm to society.
We generally complain of atrocities committed against us and protest as well. But what is required is that when we protest against any injustice against us we must also protest if injustice is done to others in the same capacity. But before that we must first learn how to protest or raise our voice. Every issue requires a different approach and pressure group accordingly and how long the protest should go and who are the people who when included can make such a protest more meaningful and effective. The community must be pro-active when anything goes wrong.
