Noted Islamic scholar and social scientist, Dr Javed Jamil has called for an end to sectarian violence and unity of all Muslim governments to fight the forces that want to sustain their political and economic hegemony in the world. He was delivering a lecture on “In the Wake of Turmoil in Egypt: Challenges for Islamic World”, organised by Jamaat-e Islami Hind at its headquarters in New Delhi on 24 August. Speaking to a packed hall, he lamented that the Muslim governments have developed serious differences on the Egypt issue and appealed to the Muslim world to sort out their differences and take a united stand. He emphasised that Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran are the key players in the Muslim world and they must come together and unite all the Islamic forces in order to safeguard Islam against the sordid machinations of its enemies.

Dr Jamil argued that “Civil wars in Muslim countries are what Obama administration has adopted as the new strategy of destroying Muslim lands. The era of wars is over, at least for the time being.” He said that America had lost more than 5000 of its military men in the wars against Iraq and Afghanistan. The suicide rates in American military has grown to unprecedented levels, killing more than 5000 army personnel and America has incurred an expenditure of more than 6 trillion dollars. “These losses added to the blame of killing more than 2 million innocent Muslims have made Obama to shift from wars to civil wars. And for civil wars what else could provide more lethal ammunition than the Sunni-Shia discord. He said that this policy of civil wars is already being put into action and one country after another is being plunged into it. Syrian civil war has already consumed more than one hundred thousand lives. Iraq’s sectarian violence is killing a large number of people on daily basis but the international media is not giving it coverage because Iraq is in the hands of American puppets. He explained how Egypt has fallen to the same design where America has helped military to not only throw away a democratically elected government but also killing the supporters of the ousted government in large numbers. “Where in the world an elected government is dismissed within a year on the charge of economic failures,” Dr Jamil asked.

Dr Jamil dwelt in length upon the on-going war between Political West and Political Islam. The world is controlled by the forces of economic fundamentalism who cannot tolerate the rise of religion because religion is the biggest impediment in the large-scale commercialisation of human susceptibilities.

The lecture was presided over by JIH Ameer Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari. In his presidential address, he expressed grave concern over the turn of events in Egypt. “It is not just the question of democracy,” he said, “it is the question of atrocities and injustices”. When thousands of the supporters of the deposed president are being killed, leaders are being detained and cases filed, how one can side with the military, he asked. He also stressed the need of the unity of Ummah and called for an end to sectarianism. He hoped that Egypt events would ultimately pave the way for the victory of the Truth.
