The School of Life Sciences at B.S. Abdur Rahman University (BSAU), Vandalur, Chennai, in association with University of East London, UK, has organised an International Conference on Applications of Natural products and opportunities ahead (ICAN 2016) on 2 & 3 August 2016. This Conference focused on various areas of natural products, applications to cure diseases, Alternative therapeutics, Herbal medicine and formulations, Metabolomics and functional food. This scientific event also highlighted the need for the research in natural products and traditional medicine that had been used in the treatment of various diseases.
The conference has brought together Engineers, Biotechnologists, Biologists, Chemists, Scientists, Industry personal and Medical practitioners to a common platform for a very creative interaction leading to inventive and resourceful ideas and innovative solutions for the various challenging problems in the field of Natural product research. The response to the call for papers was overwhelming and was presented in the technical sessions. Many delegates including renowned speakers from the UK, the USA and from various states of India participated in the conference.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Micheal Seed, Professor of Pharmacology, School of Health, Sports and Bioscience, University of East London, UK. He sowed seeds to nurture the young minds by his encouraging and motivating inaugural address. Dr. V. Periasamy, Vice Chancellor, B.S. Abdur Rahman University delivered the presidential address on the occasion. He emphasised the need for the study of natural products and the drug discovery research. Dr. V. Murugesan, Registrar, B.S. Abdur Rahman University felicitated the gathering. The conference was opened with the welcome address by Dr. S. Hemalatha, Organising Secretary ICAN 2016 , Professor and Dean, School of Life Sciences and ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Mukhleshur Rahman, Associate Professor, Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of East London, UK.
The conference was a two-day scientific knowledge sharing for all the young researchers and other participants from all over India.
