The academic contribution of Maulana Syed Abul A’la Maudoodi is very great as he has represented Islamic thought on a wide range of issues related to faith and worship, morality and manners, culture and society, law and politics, as well as the various national and international issues in a well-argued manner. He has about one hundred published works to his credit and their translations have appeared in many languages of the world. These were the views expressed by renowned Islamic scholar and Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari while releasing the new edition of Talkhees Tafheemul Qur’ān in the premises of Markazi Maktaba Islami Publishers in the capital on April 2.
Talkhees Tafheemul Qur’ān is the abridged version of Maulana Syed Abul A’la Maudoodi’s Qur’ān commentary known as Tafheemul Qur’ān. The stupendous task of abridging the Tafheemul Qur’ān was done by the great Islamic scholar Maulana Sadruddin Islahi.
“The most distinguished feature of Maulana Maudoodi’s writings is that he presented Islam as a way of life, and proved that the ultimate success of man here and in the hereafter lies therein,” Maulana Umari averred.
The Maulana further said that Maulana Maudoodi challenged the un-Islamic viewpoints of the time at every stage and proved the superiority of Islamic views over them.
“The thought of Maulana Maudoodi has found expression in the Tafheemul Qur’ān to its fullest. Therein Islam has been discussed from every angle and the various academic and practical issues have been dealt with in a very comprehensive manner. Doubts and misgivings that arise in the modern mind have been sufficiently dealt with. Thus Maulana Maudoodi’s Qur’ān commentary may well be called an encyclopaedia of Islamic learnings,” said Maulana Umari.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Manager MMI Publishers Syed Ateequr Rab enlightened the audience about the palpable difference between the earlier editions of Talkhees Tafheemul Qur’ān and its current edition.
Earlier, 28 reprints of Talkhees Tafheemul Qur’ān appeared in one volume of large size consisting of about 1,200 pages with small font. Now, it has been published in two volumes in average book size consisting each of about 1,100 pages.
Hindi edition of the book has also been published in two volumes. Besides, Kannad, Marathi and Telugu versions of Talkhees Tafheemul Qur’ān are under preparation.
In this book release ceremony two more books were released. Professor Abdul Haq Ansari’s book Mujaddedeen-i-Ummat aur Tasawwuf was released by Naib Ameer-e-Jamaat Professor K.A. Siddique Hasan, and Dr. Shamshul Islam Farooqui’s book Hashraat-e-Qur’āni by another Naib Ameer-e-Jamaat Muhammad Jafar.
Members of Jamaat’s Central Advisory Council and various other social, religious and political personalities, including Professor Akhtarul Wasey and Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji graced the occasion with their august presence.
