God invites man to reflect on the objects of nature, how they are functioning according to a universal law. Such reflection reveals that there is proper proportion, balance, harmony and coordination between these objects and their functioning, without which they could not function even for a moment. And we can also think how they are working in harmony for centuries together, right from the creation of the universe. This reflection leads us to the fact that there is a universal and all powerful system which binds and forces these objects of nature to cooperate and coordinate between themselves with a perfect proportion and harmony. This could not have been possible had there been different independent rulers. The existence of such a system bears evidence that there must be One All Powerful Being governing the entire universe.

In the present time people are leading a machine life; they find no time even to talk to the members of their families, not to say of reflecting on the objects of nature. This mechanical life may help them earn some handsome money but the fact is that money is not everything. We should be contended with what we have and try to maintain a balanced, healthy life, paying attention to all aspects of life, spiritual as well as physical, social as well as familial.

If we do not reflect for whatsoever reason, we would start inventing lies and questioning the relevance of teachings of God and His Messengers. This in turn would lead to rejection of truth and believing in conceit, whims and inconsistencies. The Qur’ān (23:90) paints this picture in a succinct manner: “Nay, We have revealed to them the truth; and yet, they are certainly lying.” The word ‘Nay’ rejects all the lies of the unbelievers before setting the tone for something of great significance, that God has revealed the truth for the welfare of man.

The Qur’ān (23:91) presents a picture of what would have happened had there been multiple rulers in the universe: “Never did God take to Himself any offspring, nor has there ever been any deity alongside Him. Had there been any, each deity would surely have taken away his own creation, and they would surely have tried to establish superiority over one another. Limitless in His glory is God, far above all that which they attribute to Him.”

We can simply think that no household, no institution, not to speak of the vast universe containing multitudes of countless stars and galaxies, can function smoothly and properly, if it has multiple masters. This style of functioning that we witness in our households and institutions as well as in the universe, proves the oneness of the Lord Creator. Thus the more we delve deep into the ocean of truth, the more we would be able to come back with the gems of truth in our hands.
