The Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Uttar Pradesh (East), Maulana Waliullah Saeedi Falahi expressed his anger and disgust over the cruel and inhumane treatment meted out to the Muslims of Asthan village in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The Jamaat leader sent a delegation to the affected area in order to take stock of the situation over there and to express solidarity with the victims. The delegation, which also met government officials, came out with the findings which are very alarming, as the perpetrators of violence unleashed barbarism and brutalities in presence of police and administration. With the whole of the Muslim locality burnt down and all their livestock destroyed, Muslims are forced to live under the blue sky. The condition of women, who have taken refuge in a school building, is also deplorable.
The most astonishing thing is that the culprits are walking freely with no actions taken against them, as the government is playing the role of a mute spectator, the Jamaat leader said. He further said if the government does not change its attitude towards Muslims then it will lose the credibility and the Muslims will have no choice but to hit the streets with their demands.
The Jamaat leader said they had high hopes that under SP rule law and order situation would improve and the government would meet the expectations of the Muslims, however the recent riots in Kosi Kalan and the present Pratapgarh riots have left one perplexed. Muslims have been running from pillar to post in order to meet the chief minister to address their grievances but they are not being given time for the meeting.
The Jamaat has been doing all that it could and will continue to help the affected people in Kosi Kalan as well as Pratapgarh, however the government should also take its responsibility seriously and come up with stringent punishments and measures for the guilty police officers and government officials so that these kinds of incidents do not happen again, he said.
He further said that it is ludicrous that most of the affected people have no information at all about the compensation announced after the incident. Neither administration knows about it nor have any steps been taken to turn the announcement of compensation into reality. The government should take strong steps to mitigate the injustices done to the affected and provide required resources and help for the needy.
