Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, during its monthly press briefing at its headquarters on 7 May, expressed grave concern over acute water crisis and irresponsive role of the Government in dealing with the situation either for immediate relief or for its solution in the long run. It also demanded from other states to enforce total prohibition while emulating the initiative of the Government of Bihar towards a ban on alcohol in the state.
Addressing the monthly press meet, Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, informed the press persons that the Jamaat cadre are doing all in their capacity to provide water in places where people are facing an acute water crisis. He asked the Centre and all the state governments to look into the situation which is indeed very alarming. The governments should take all measures to provide immediate relief and work out the modalities to address the situation in the long term. He informed that in Latur district of Maharashtra, JIH has been providing 5 water tankers daily to 10 affected localities and has planned to dig bore wells.  While lauding the efforts of the Government of Bihar, the JIH leader asked all other states to issue orders for complete ban on alcohol. The Jamaat has adopted 50 villages to make it complete liquor prohibited villages in order to transform it into ideal villages.
Nusrat Ali, Vice President of the organisation, while replying to a question, said that after a brief respite during the NDA rule arrest of Muslim youth is now a routine affair. Jamaat has always raised its voice and will continue to do so. Even after acquittal, neither adequate compensation is given nor are those officers who had framed them punished. In reply to another question, he said that the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal responded very positively on all the matters put before him and also expressed his reservation in view of strained relation with the centre on various issues. The issue of Waqf was also raised; he said he would do what he could in these matters.
Mohammad Salim Engineer, in reply to a question, said that the media should also try to put forward the version of the parents of those arrested on terror charges along with charges levelled against them by the investigating agencies.
On the issue of conflict in Syria, the Jamaat expressed concern and disappointment on the role of the media as it has failed to provide an independent and unbiased coverage of the Syrian conflict. JIH believes that the interference of US and Russia in Syria is wrong and demanded the UN to play a positive role in restoring peace and removing all foreign forces out of Syria.
