Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, addressing the monthly press briefing at JIH headquarters on 2 January, totally denounced ISIS and its activities. He categorically said that ISIS activities are completely un-Islamic and has been condemned by one and all. It is creation of the West to harm the image and acceptability of Islam. Their creation is a conspiracy to malign Islam and create fissure in the Muslim world. The Western powers are capable enough to crush ISIS within days but deliberately not doing so only to continue military operations. At the same time it would help them to create a negative perception of Islam and Islamic state.

JIH Vice President Nusrat Ali, while addressing the press meet, said that the recently passed Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill is a way forward but it may not be as effective as expected because law and legislation alone cannot curb the sexual crimes unless and until reform process is carried out at the ground level. He also suggested that banning alcohol across India would be a way forward. Simply lowering the age of the accused is merely not enough because if someone of the still lower age group commits such a crime, how long they will keep on lowering the age limit.

Mr. Ali, while replying to a question, expressed concern over non-utilisation of funds for the minorities. Even the amount that was sanctioned was not adequate but surprisingly it is not spent. This shows our government’s concern for minorities. He told the presspersons that Jamaat has formed a committee to keep an eye on such schemes and would try to help the community to reach out to such schemes.

The Jamaat has strongly condemned the ongoing recent arrest of Muslim youth on terror charges or on charges of association with the ISIS. It feels that the police and the law enforcement agencies are grossly misusing the various anti-terror laws and targeting innocent Muslim youth by detaining them illegally in order to create a fear psychosis among Muslims and to harass and malign them. The Jamaat demanded from the Government of India to immediately release all innocent Muslims arrested on fake charges. The Jamaat, in its current four-year plan, has mentioned to facilitate 100 per cent utilisation of funds for Minority Welfare by creating awareness among the people.

On the question of the new elected Mushawarat president, the JIH Ameer said now he has been elected by the members, people should cooperate with him and any difference may only harm the very prestigious organisation of Muslims.
