In Bangladesh, the ruling Awami League is targeting with all ill intentions senior Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) leaders like Prof. Ghulam Azam, Maulana Mutiur Rahman Nizami, Abdul Kader Mullah, Allama Dilwar Hossain Sayedee and others. It is also curbing the agitations people are staging after the so-called International Crimes Tribunal awarded death sentence to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Allama Dilawar Husain Sayedee, and life sentence to Abdul Kader Mullah. About 100 people, mostly belonging to BJI and Islami Chatra Shibir have been killed and thousands rendered injured during the clashes.

Human rights organisations as well as legal fraternity worldwide have condemned these injustices and sham trail. Protests are being staged in various cities and memorandums being sent to Bangladesh, demanding release of the leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and stop political vendetta.

In a memorandum sent to the High Commissioner of Bangladesh in New Delhi, representatives of various organisations in Mumbai demanded from the Government of Bangladesh to immediately release BJI leaders and withdraw all fake cases against them, fulfilling all the requirements of justice and democracy. “This is the way you can restore order in your nation and give stability, development and prosperity to your nation,” reads the memorandum.

The memorandum also appeals to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, advocates of justice and peace, to exert pressure on our neighbour to fulfil the requirements of justice.

The signatories to the memorandum are Maulana Hakim Mehmood Dariyabadi, Gen. Sec. All India Ulama Council, Mumbai; Alok Bhattacharya, Ahinsa Samanvaya Manch, Mumbai; Advocate Saeed Akhtar, President, All India Muslim Majlis-e- Mushwarat, Mumbai; Sarfaraz Arzu, Urdu Patrakar Sangh, Urdu Daily Hindustan, Mumbai; Meraj Siddiqui, Muslim Intellectual Forum, Mumbai; and Mohammed Aslam Ghazi, Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra.

In the USA, an American Muslim organisation, Americans United for Human Rights (AUHR) has submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh Consulate in New York. AUHR Co-coordinator Mubashbir Ahmed and Islamic Leadership Council Chairman Justice Imam Abdul Ayub Baki submitted the memorandum to Consul General Monirul Islam on 13 March.

In addition, AUHR also held a protest in front of the Consulate office. Bangladeshi Americans and American Muslims were present in this protest. They called upon the government of Bangladesh to stop inhumane assassination, political trial and to give security to non-Muslim and not to blame any political party in Bangladesh.

They also held a meeting there and demanded the immediate release of Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee. Imam Abdul Ayub Baki presided over the meeting and Mubashbir Ahmed, Professor Kazi Md Ismail, Maulana Ibrahim Khalil, Maulana Nayeb Ali, Shahana Masum, Dr. Azizul Haque, Engineer Mohammad Reza, Fakhrul Islam, Mahbubur Rahman, Monir Hossain, Rozina Sultana, Ismat Ara Fazila, Raseduzzaman and others attended it.
