Education must be reshaped on the basis of social justice and basic humanitarian values, demands Students Manifesto released in the Capital by Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) on April 10.

While releasing the Manifesto the organisation’s president Suhail K.K. said the manifesto is the voice of the student community of this country.

“The education system and its content had been basically one and the same since the British colonial rule. The aim of education has since been to create man power which will fulfil the needs of the industry,” SIO president opined.

He further said, “Mere information gathering and technical training disguised in the garb of education solely rests on the edifice of blatant materialism. This valueless education has created a society free of humanitarian values. The real aim of education must be to create generations who is aware of God, self and nature. Education aims at creating a cultured man, a peaceful society and a hopeful future for mankind. A student is one who identifies his goals of life and attains them by drawing all the available resources from his environment and synthesising them in the development of his personality.”

He said that the governance of education sector must be reconstructed on the basis of social justice. A neo-caste system where only those people who fall in the right side of economic affordability could obtain quality education is prevailing in our country. This gap must be bridged by timely educational policies of the government instead of widening it. The decision of the government to allow FDI in education has to be reviewed in this context.

The SIO leader demanded that true investigations must be done in all recent blasts incidents and arrest of the innocents. “Moreover, minority status of Jamia Millia and AMU should be recognised. The recommendations made by Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission on reservation for religious minorities must be implemented as soon as possible.”

He said that the students manifesto is not an election manifesto but a reminder on the part of students’ community to the political parties and candidates that they would support only those who agree to their demands. It is a strong reminder on the part of students’ community to the people’s representatives of what all need to be done in the field of education and students of this country.
