“The incidents like that of Rohit Vemula happen every day with hundreds and thousands of Dalits, Muslims, Sikhs and other oppressed sections. The incident of Rohit’s death is the result of the Hindu Mythological Brahminist ideology,” said Anil Chamadia, a renowned journalist and author while addressing the weekly meet at Jamaat-e-Islami Hind headquarters in New Delhi on 23 January.

Rohit Vemula, a Ph.D. research scholar of the University of Hyderabad, did not commit suicide but he was compelled to suicide. He was suspended along with other four Dalit students from the university hostel following the order of a central minister. Rohit’s parents are a daily wage labour. “Rohit was vocal against Brahminist forces and state terrorism. This was the reason he was targeted by the Brahminist forces,” Mr. Chamadia added.

He further said, “Rohit’s death is not an exceptional incident. Such incidents are happening every day across the country. During the last five-six years 12-15 students have committed suicide in Hyderabad University. Each and every IIT, IIM, AIIMS and other institutions have a bitter experience of such incidents. About two century ago Dalit-villages used to be set on fire and now it also happens with Muslims in Muzaffarnagar, Bhagalpur and Gujarat or with Sikhs in Delhi and other parts of the country. Targeted groups are different but the attackers are the same. The ideology behind these attacks is exactly the same. The Hindutwavadi forces of India will never allow the empowerment of Dalits, Muslims and other backward sections in any form – social, economic or political.”
“Brahminical social order has changed its face and strategy again and again. So to understand the root of social discrimination we have to join the dots of many incidents. Without considering all the angles of social injustice one cannot understand the Brahminical ideology of RSS to develop a counter ideology to counter this dangerous force. The common targets among the Dalits and Muslims are the same; they target the Dalits who somehow try to stand independent and have improved their social, economic and political standard. Look at the Muslims youths who are arrested on charge of terrorism; almost all of them are highly qualified – science and technology students or professional,” said Mr. Chamadia.

During the question-answer session, Dr. Chamadia, while responding to a question, said that until all the deprived sections of our society who are attacked by a particular tiny group, are not united against these forces, the attacks may continue to take place at regular intervals on and on and the situation will never be changed.
