Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, president All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, while speaking at the weekly meet organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at its headquarters on 17 October, said that the turmoil we see in Syria is not only because of internal problems but Russia on the pretext of these problems is at war with the USA to regain supremacy in that region which it had decades ago and that is why the war between Russia and America is being fought on the Syrian land.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Khan said that almost the whole country is in a state of ruins, cities have been completely ravaged and 70 to 80 per cent buildings have been destroyed and more than 70 per cent people have left the country. Thus the country as a whole is in turmoil completely. Infrastructure has also collapsed completely and people are moving out of the country in utter distress and helplessness.
In reply to a question from the audience, he said in Syria power is concentrated in one hand which is not the case in any other country in that region. At least in other countries there are other people who are also engaged in the rule in one way or the other. In Syria, which may be equal to Chhattisgarh in India, there are more than 40 groups always at loggerheads for one or another reason. This also results in fighting and chaos in the country. The only possible solution which the leaders from other parts of the world as well as the people at home want, especially at this war time, is the regime change. Everyone wants the regime to go.
On the question of petroleum, Dr. Khan said in almost every war the primary target remains petroleum apart from all other factors including regime change. The oil fields either in Iraq or now in Syria, despite heavy destruction, are safe though they are vulnerable to get burnt with even a little spark. He questioned why the oil fields are only spared?
In reply to another question, he said that ISIS was created to distort the image of Islam and to misguide the people about the Islamic rule. It was aimed to show the people that look, this will happen under any Islamic rule.
On the question of freedom in the country, he said that the rights of the people to protest in the country have been seized for a quite long time. And almost 12 years ago, the country as per its law had decided to hang anyone found to be a member of Ikhwanul Muslimeen. There is no rule of law and freedom of the people is a distant dream.
