Sab Ki Seva, a public charitable trust formed last year in Delhi, has reported an eventful year of service to the society in general and jail inmates in particular. The Trust got registration under section 12AA of the Income Tax Act and was also provided certificate under Section 80G enabling tax exemptions to donors of the Trust. Although the objects of the Trust encompasses varied nature of social services but it has been concentrating on providing medical, educational and moral services for inmates in many jails located in the national capital. It got necessary permission as an NGO by Jail authorities and has been active in the field from day one.

During the year 2017-18 it conducted a workshop for teachers in Tihar Jail wherein 33 prisoner-teachers participated. Sab Ki Seva provided four resource persons for the workshop. Further, the Trust got the opportunity of providing 1000 sets of primary and up to standard textbooks, copies, registers and other stationery items including blackboards and maps in various jails. The educational kits provided included blackboards and maps.

Free Ortho and Medical camps were organised in various jails with the cooperation of Al_Shifa Multispeciality Hospital. Free medicines were provided along with medical check-ups by teams of qualified physicians/surgeons and para-medical staff. One such medical camp was organised in Jail number 16, earmarked for ladies. A team of 16 persons including four doctors and three councillors served the lady-inmates of the jail.

Some of the Medical Camps accompanied with Counselling camps too. This was aimed at providing moral and psychological boost ups to the prisoners so that they may mend their ways and lead a constructive life.

An iftar party was also organised in Tihar Jail. A feature of this party was that officials, staff members and prisoners, both Muslims and Non-Muslims, participated and shared the iftar. About 700 participants enjoyed the event and it was reported in the Jail Journal ‘Shakti Times’ providing one full coloured page pictorial report mentioning the name of Sab Ki Seva.

With the permission of Jail authorities a set of 200 titles of religious and moral books were provided in a jail along with a book-shelf for their safe keeping. Similar permissions have been granted in other jails and it is in progress.

In addition to service to jail inmates the team of the Trust visited an old age home providing sarees for women and shirts and pants for men besides blankets and winter caps. Some moral books and the Holy Qur’ān were also distributed. The authorities of the Olg Age Home requested for more copies of the Holy Qur’ān which were later arranged.

In the educational field this Trust has been distributing school bags with educational kits to poor students. Further, in a unique drive it participated with the cooperation of Human Welfare Foundation in setting up a Community Educational Centre in Kanchan Kunj meant for poor families whose children work as rag-pickers. The idea is to provide them with basic education and get them admitted in a Government run school, continuing with their tuition and counselling. Forty one students are enrolled while twelve of them have been admitted in a school run by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The task of persuading the students and their parents to give up rag-picking or at least take out time therefrom for education required a lot of persuasion and perseverance.
