Reviewing the socio-political and economic trends in the nation, Student Islamic Organisation of India, Delhi and Jamia Millia Islamia Zones, called upon youth and students to think of the Nation, at a grand students’ convention held in the Capital on 24 October. A large number of students and youth along with some elders attended the convention.

The convention commenced with the inaugural words by Mr. Abdul Waheed, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Delhi and Haryana Zone. He reminded the Muslim community of its duty to struggle for propagating virtues and curbing evils in the society. He also described the important role of youth that they can play in reconstruction of the society.

Mr. Mohammed Azharuddin, Ex-President of SIO, took notice of degrading condition of the society. He criticised modern ideologies that played a crucial role in shaping the society on the wrong footing. He said it all happened because of denying the role of God in shaping society. The only viable alternative is Islam. He urged students and youth to study the ideology of Islam and lead society in the right direction.

Dr. Mohammed Rafat, Professor Jamia Millia Islamia, explained the ideology of Islam. He said Islamic ideology is based on three universal realities. The first is that there is one God who created this universe. The second is that there is eternal life hereafter in which everyone will get fruit of their deeds. And the last is that God sent messengers in every age and Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be to him) is His final Messenger. He also added that Islam teaches us that we should co-operate even with those who do not believe these realities, on human grounds.

Mr. Yugal Kishore Sharan Shastri, a human rights activist, criticised the biased policy of the government towards the Muslim community. Citing the Babri Masjid demolition and Afzal Guru’s execution, he said that this country has become the platform of communalism. Even sections of judiciary and administration are involved in this. Referring to illegal arrests of Muslim youth, he said that India is on the third number of countries that jail innocent people after America and Pakistan. He urged the people to stand against any type of oppression and communalism.

Mr. Ashutoush Kumar, President, JNU Students Union, said that propaganda is being hatched to divide us on different bases. We will have to unite against oppression and communalism. We will have to challenge the present system and stand against its atrocities.

Delivering the presidential note, Mr. Nusrat Ali, Gen.-Sec. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, appreciated SIO cadre for the good job towards the society and described the importance of youth. He said that they are well-aware of the present situation. In this situation, there may be three types of reaction. One of them is frustration and hopelessness that is not beneficial. The second is the path of extremism that is again not beneficial. And the third is middle of both, that is persistent activism towards reconstruction of society. It is balanced and constructive reaction. We should follow it.
