Accelerating the movement for justice for Najeeb Ahmed and safety for Muslim students in campuses, Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), one of the largest students organisations in India, held massive protest at MHRD (Ministry for Human Resource Development) in New Delhi on 23 February. Social and political activists, student leaders and Najeeb’s Mother Fatima Nafees addressed the gathering and slammed the Delhi police and the government for not searching Najeeb.

Targeting Prime Minister Narendra, who recently said he is adopted son of UP (Uttar Pradesh), Fatima Nafees said that Modi called himself son of UP. If he is son of UP, why he is not searching his brother Najeeb (who hails from Badaun district of UP). He must give strong instruction to find out Najeeb. Taking on Delhi police, she wondered why they don’t understand the pain of a mother who is wandering from pillar to post in search of her son. “Don’t they have children? If they don’t find out Najeeb, they can’t keep from the wrath of a mother who is mourning for her son,” she said.

Slamming the Modi government, Prakash Ambedkar (grandson of Dr. BR Ambedkar) said that since BJP came to power at the centre, there is unrest in the campuses. They tried to spread unrest in many universities to take benefit of it. This government does not want democracy; this is why they are stirring unrest. Several campaigns were launched for Najeeb in various campuses. He said that he was himself present in some campaigns. He asked officers what had happened with Najeeb at that night. But they are not ready to tell this. “Unless we keep fighting, there will be pressure upon the authorities. If they fail to find out Najeeb, we will have to accelerate our movement,” he added.

Questioning the intention of Delhi police, Dr. SQR Ilyas, president Welfare Party of India, said this same Delhi police used to catch immediately Muslim youths after every bomb blast. But it could not find out Najeeb in the last four months.

Nahas Mala, President of SIO, said that many students from weaker sections, Dalits and Muslims are coming to Central universities for study. They are afraid of their life. He asked Delhi police if they are ready to protect them. They are not ready for it because they are protecting ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad). He also said that we will continue our protest unless we get Najeeb back.

Dr. Zafar-Ul-Islam Khan (former president All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat), and Mohit K Pandey (JNUSU President) also addressed the gathering and demanded action against those who are accused of disappearing Najeeb.
