Prof. Tareen, in his welcome address, remembered the Founder of this great institution, Dr. B.S. Abdur Rahman, who could not attend the ceremony due to health reasons and asked the people assembled there to pray for his good health. “It is my duty to briefly mention about this great, iconic, multifaceted, living legend, who is known as a self-made entrepreneur, philanthropist and social reformer, whose vision has generated jobs for over 70,000 in his businesses of over US$6 billion and provided education opportunities to thousands of youth and children. This University is one of the 15 institutions run by him.”

The Vice Chancellor also briefed the development of the University by saying that this University was started during the year 1984 as a Muslim Minority Self Financing Engineering College with just 3 branches of engineering programmes at Undergraduate level. After serving the society for 25 years, the College was accorded Deemed University Status by the Government of India (Ministry of Human Resource Development) on the recommendation of University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) after their joint inspection of the College. It started to function as a university since 2009.

In his concluding remarks the vice chancellor thanked Chief Guest Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions for recruiting 715 students so far and 136 students this year alone.
