Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, an Islamic scholar of global repute, has been re-elected Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for the third consecutive term, 2015-2019. The Jamaat’s 144-member apex body Markazi Majlis-e Numaindagan (House of Representatives) made an announcement to this effect after thorough deliberations on the various aspects, including the electoral process, on 5 April.

Born in North Arcot district of Tamil Nadu in 1935, Maulana Jalaluddin Omari obtained his honours from Aligarh Muslim University after completion of his studies at Oomerabad in Vellore District of Tamil Nadu. In 1970 he associated himself with JIH Department of Research and Writing. He has been Chairman of Idara-e-Tahqeeq-o-Tasneef and Editor of its renowned quarterly journal Tahqeeqat-e-Islami.

Maulana Jalaluddin Omari is a renowned author and famous orator. He has over 30 books to his credit on the Qur’ān, Sunnah and socio-religious aspects of life. His many books have been translated into English, Arabic and Turkish besides all major languages of India.

Maulana Jalaluddin Omari is Vice President of Indian Muslims’ united and umbrella body All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Founder Member of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat and holds high positions on various national and international institutions. He has also participated in several international conferences.

Maulana Jalaluddin Omari is also Patron of Jamaat’s students wing, Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO). In a statement on 5 April, SIO national president Iqbal Hussain heartily welcomed the re-election of its chief patron as Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, and prayed to Allah the Exalted for future endeavours of the Islamic Movement.

The Majlis-e-Numaindagan, comprising 144 members, including 22 women members, also elected members of the Central Advisory Council (Markazi Majlis-e-Shoora) of Jamaat for the next term. The elected members of Shoora are: Syed Sadatullah Husaini, Er. Md. Saleem, Nusrat Ali, S. Ameenul Hasan, Md. Jafar, Dr. Hasan Raza, Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, T. Arif Ali, Dr. Md. Rafat, Maulana Yusuf Islahi, Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, Waliullah Sayeedi Falahi, H. Abdur Raqeeb, T.K. Abdullah, Mujtaba Farooq, Abdul Jabbar Siddiqi, Iqbal Mulla and V.K. Ali.

As we rush to the press, the JIH Amir Maulana Jalaluddin Omari in the ongoing session of the Central Advisory Council will name Naib Amir(s), Secretary-General and Secretaries for the next four-year term.
