The Islamic Foundation Trust along with the Department of Arabic, Urdu and Persian, University of Madras, conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Modern Trends in Teaching Arabic’. The resource person was the Arabic scholar of international fame, Dr V Abdur Rahim, Director, Translation Centre, King Fahd Qur’ān Printing Complex, Madina, Saudi Arabia.
In the first session, the programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’ān. Mr. K. Jalaludeen, Joint Secy., IFT, Chennai, welcomed the gathering. The session was presided over by Dr. Syed Sajjad Hussain, HOD, Dept. of Arabic, Persian and Urdu, University of Madras, Chennai. After the presidential address and inaugural address by the resource person, a book titled Wa Qul Lahuma Qawlan Karima was released.

Dr. V. Abdur Rahim stressed on the importance of teaching Arabic with the help of modern digital aids so as the learner finds the language easy to learn and we should do away with the ancient methodology. With various illustrations and demonstrations, he elaborated how we can make the subject interesting as most of the people present in the audience were school teachers and lecturers.
He held an interactive session with few participants and taught how one can learn to speak and apply by practising more and more. The scholar held most of the sessions in Arabic.
He held discussions and feedbacks with the participants; it was really encouraging. The most encouraging part was the participation of lady teachers. Almost 50 per cent of the audience were ladies.
At the end of the programme, certificates were distributed among the participants. The programme came to an end with vote of thanks extended by Mr Imran Lateef Sait, Treasurer, IFT.
