Those who do not realise the Truth, do not believe in God and His Prophet ﷺ, do not follow the Divine Guidance and do not care to mend their lives as they continue to tread the ill-trodden path left behind by their ancestors, in fact lead a sinful life. In most cases, they can be seen immersed neck-deep in sins, crimes and corruption. They are quite oblivious of its consequences. They lead this sinful life almost machine-like. They perhaps think that this earthly life is the end of life. And, when some righteous person reminds them of the Day of Judgement, they reject it, rather mock at it.

The Qur’ān has presented the ultimate end of such sinners. In SūrahAr-Rahman, the Book of God says: “The culprits shall be known by their marks, and shall be seized by their forelocks and their feet.” (55:41) This āyah presents a scene in which Divine force is seen at work, how forelocks and feet are tied together and the guilty are cast into the Hell. This is ultimate humiliation, and one of the severe punishments for the sharks in human form. Then, in the next āyah, the Qur’ān asks: “Which of the powers of your Lord, will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny?” That, in the worldly life, they continued to deny the Truth, reject it and thought it is impossible, but the Qur’ān says that there can be no denial in the Day of Judgement.

Then it will be said: “This is the Hell that the culprits had cried lies to.” (55:43) That is, there can be no denial now as the Hell is present here, as you are now seeing it.

The āyah 55:44 says that “they will keep circling around between Hell and boiling water.” On this āyah, a Qur’ān commentator writes: “That is, in Hell they will feel oppressed with thirst again and again. and will rush towards the springs of water, but will find only boiling water, which will not satisfy their thirst, and they will thus continue to wander to and fro between Hell and the springs for ever and ever.”

This is the difference between the worldly life and the ultimate life in the Hereafter. In the worldly life, there is rejection of the Truth, there is assumption about things to happen; that is, there is uncertainty for those who do not believe. But in the Hereafter, everything will be before your eyes. Your deeds will be there and their result in the form of either the Paradise or the Hell will be there. If you have done good deeds with belief in God, His Messenger and His teachings, you will be blessed with the Paradise. On the contrary, if you have failed to do so and led a life to satisfy your whims and inconsistencies only, your place will be the Hell. May God lead us to the righteous path.
