Muslim women got freedom over 1400 years ago. We are happy with our Shari’ah and we don’t want any interference in our personal laws. Triple Talaq Bill is illogical and against women in many ways. It is aimed at disturbing our family system. The government is trying to impose majoritarian mindset on us. The bill is a conspiracy against our personal laws and Shari’ah in the name of freedom and we will not accept such a bill which is illogical and biased, said Asma Zahra, Executive member of AIMPLB, while addressing a protest meet of women against Triple Talaq Bill, organised by Women’s Wing of All India Muslim Personal Law Board in the national capital on 28 January.

Representatives of the Board from various states rejected the Triple Talaq Bill and declared their firm faith in Muslim Personal Laws and Shari’ah. Atia Siddiqua, Secretary, Women’s Wing, JIH, while addressing the gathering, said that Islam has the best family system and the government is trying to destroy our family system. The bill will further complicate the life of not only Muslim women but the entire family system in one way or the other. If they are really concerned about Muslim women then why the government is doing nothing for all those women who are seeking justice in various parts of the country.

The speakers also questioned what the government has done for mothers and sisters of all those killed during riots, violence and mob lynchings. If the government is really concerned then why they are doing nothing for all Hindu women who have become widowed and half-widowed or all women struggling after separation. During the meet a signature campaign was done and a resolution was also adopted. Most of the speakers asked the Parliamentarians to speak against the Bill and do all what they can to send it to the Select Committee. Khursheed Begum from Deoband, Mehrunnisha from Rajasthan, Sofiya from Bhopal, Mahjabeen from Bihar, and Fatima Muzaffar from Chennai and representatives from Bengal and Karnataka also addressed the gathering.
