Human life is like a bubble. It is created with the Will of God and it also leaves the body with His  Will. How powerless and helpless man is can be experienced in a succinct manner in the present second spell of Covid-19. The scourge this time is highly devastating, and people say the peak is yet to come.

Hospitals are short of beds for Covid patients. Oxygen cylinders are short of supply. Patients and their attendants are running helter-skelter. Thanks to our scanty health infrastructure, treatment of Covid patients at hospitals is becoming near impossible.

Those who breathe their last, at homes or at hospitals, are also not getting a resting place in a descent manner. Graveyards are reporting short of space. Crematoriums are no better; their chimneys are melting because of round the clock use; at some places, scenes of people keeping the bodies of their dear ones on footpaths in queue to be admitted to a crematorium, and at others, of burning of bodies in parks paint a very horrible picture.

All this shows, let us realise, that man has no power and is thus helpless. This is a lesson for all of us, especially for those who brag of their power and wealth. We should know for certain that whatever power and strength, wealth and property, knowledge and intellect we have is bestowed upon us by God. We are just temporary users of these worldly provisions. And that one day we have to leave behind all what we have here on earth.

The Qur’ān (3:26) says: “Say, ‘O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honour whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is (all) good. Indeed, over all things You have Power’.”

The Book God has revealed for all human beings also says in Surah Aal Imran 3:189: “And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Allah has Power over all things.”

When the truth is that we humans are powerless and that all power belongs to God, and that whatever power we feel we have is the trust of God in our hand, we need to turn to God, realise His Power and Wisdom and take shelter in His Mercy, shunning all those, things or humans like us, that prove entirely helpless and powerless especially at such critical moments as we are passing through. This is high time we turned to God. This is what the second spell of Covid has to teach us.
