The DST Workshop on “Applications of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS in Natural Resource Management”, organised by the Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications, Aligarh Muslim University concluded in the premises of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh successfully. Mr Shakeel Ahmad, IPS, Lucknow graced the valedictory function as chief guest while Mr. Faisal Aftab, IAS, Additional Commissioner, Aligarh was the guest of honour.

Prof. Nizamuddin Khan, Coordinator of the Workshop presented a short introduction of the resource persons who delivered lectures and shared practical experiences with participants.

Dr. Sarnam Singh, Dean, IIRS, Dehradun, spoke on applications of remote sensing and GIS in forest and ecology related fields while Prof. Masood Ahsan, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi expressed his views on conceptual background of natural resources and their importance for sustainable development.

Dr. Lubna Siddiqui, also from Jamia Millia Islamia lectured on applications of GPS in spatial database creation and resource mapping while Prof. Ateeque Ahmad, Chairperson, Department of Geography, AMU addressed the conceptual issues related to resource mapping and management.

Prof. Azizur Rahman Siddiqui, Allahabad University, delivered lectures on land degradation and forest fire risk modeling and Dr. Saif Saeed from AMU delivered a talk on interaction of EMR with the surface of earth, while highlighting the importance of EMS in remote sensing.

Prof Shahab Fazal of AMU presented a talk delineating the importance of spatial analysis in different fields pertaining to natural resource mapping, monitoring and management.

Prof Mahtab Singh, MD University, Rohtak, while referring to the Village Information System for g-Governance, underlined the applications of GIS and Remote Sensing in Natural Resource Management.

Prof. Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary, Registrar, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani gave a lecture on Geographic Information System (GIS) – Concept & Applications.

Prof. Haroon Sajjad, Jamia Millia Islamia, delivered a lecture on future prospects of using geospatial technologies in natural resource management. Dr. Himanshu Govil, NIT, Raipur spoke on digital image processing techniques.

A practical exercise on digital image processing and an educational tour to the Aligarh Fort was organised during the workshop.

Certificates of participation were also given away by the chief guest and guest of honour.

Prof. Ateeque Ahmad, Chairperson, Department of Geography, conducted the concluding ceremony.
