The Welfare Party of India has launched the national capital on 2 May a nationwide Save the Nation campaign against the anti-people policies of the BJP government to make people aware of the dangers and threats that may take place from the growing intolerance and anti-poor policies of the government. The party has urged the like-minded people and parties to protect the country from Corporate Capitalism, Communal Fascism and Corruption.

Subramani Armugam, National Secretary of WPI and Campaign Convener, expressed concern over the manner in which the government is making policies which is against common people. To him, the Modi-led BJP government is helping the corporate lobby at the cost of poor people which is exactly the opposite of what was promised for development and sab ka saath sab ka vikas.

During the programme, a booklet on anti-people policies of BJP government was also released as the guidelines of the nationwide campaign. The three-month campaign will be focused in 12 states where there is structural presence of the party along with other parties. In the programme, it was widely accepted that change in government will hardly meet the aspiration of the people unless and until there is change of the mindset aimed at redefining the system and amending the draconian and obsolete laws and policies with more humane ones.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, Editor The Milli Gazette said it hardly makes any difference whether there is government led by Manmohan Singh or that of the BJP because in absolute terms it is the IB that runs the government. According to him, IB must be made accountable. He also reminded the gathering that if people will not rise up to the occasion soon then there is no doubt that the people will lose their right to protest even in closed doors, forget about open public meet and protest.

Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, National President of WPI said it is quite surprising that we generally boast of 20 Indians ranked in top 100 in the world but at the same time why in the same country one third of all poor people in the world go hungry. We talk of development but the real development must be calculated from our human development index.
